Last Visit To My Urologist – January 9, 2012

It’s been awhile since I have last blogged. Sorry about that. Around the holidays I just wanted to focus on my family. Then I got out of the habit of blogging. A couple of times I have wanted to blog but I have neuropathy in my hands and it is hard to type. But that is just an excuse so here I am back blogging.

So I will update you on some things that have been happening to me.

On January 9th I had a visit with my urologist. Up to this point I haven’t been emptying my bladder at all. I can start a stream but I can’t empty.

So my urologist set me up with a test to see how much pressure is coming from my bladder. The test was really weird. They put a catheter in my penis that went into my bladder and a catheter in my stoma and then put electric probes on me to test the pressure.

First they filled me full of water directly through my catheter in my huge :-) penis! The nurse told me when my bladder was full to call her in and we would start the test. It was just really weird.

It took awhile but I finally felt full so she told me to try and start peeing. Now I’m not peeing well at all at this time. So I’m suppose to be peeing into a little funnel that directs my urine into the toilet. Just was way too weird. While I was peeing the pressure from my stomach muscles, my bladder was being recorded on a machine.

It was really hard to pee. Just too much going on. The nurse came in and unhooked me and by the look in her face, I didn’t think I did very well. Then we went off to see the urologist.

My Dr. looked at the tests and then told me I had a 5% chance of peeing again. I think he stunned me.

But then I got mad. He never really heard me. I was peeing, I just couldn’t empty my bladder completely. I was polite and didn’t swear at him but underneath my breath I was mad.

There was NO WAY I was not going to pee again. I hate these catheters.

    Mark,
Glad you are blogging again! I have had pee problems too, as a result of the surgery and radiation treatments. I get frequent UTIs because I, too, don’t completely empty my bladder. I did the pee into the funnel test. Pretty weird. If I sit down to pee and then put my fist low on by belly just above the pubic bone and press while bending forward, the pressure will empty my bladder. Still, I take daily antibiotics to keep the UTI from recurring. Messes with my digestion some, but better than burning from the UTI when I pee.

Hey, suffering the side effects from cancer treatment is better than the alternative, being DEAD!

Be WELL and keep blogging & posting!

You are right. Every time I get mad about the cancer treatment and some of the side effects I’m going through I get mad. But then I keep hearing the words my surgeon told me as we discussed my surgery. He said, “Mark you are young and we are talking about your survival.”

I have never had a uninary track infection yet and cross my fingers, I hope I never do.

      Blessings,

      Mark
