Life sometimes sends you different curve balls and I certainly wasn’t ready for this one.
In April of 2011 I started having some things happening in my body. I was having some blood in my stools and to tell you the truth I didn’t think much of it.
When the bleeding wouldn’t stop for a couple of weeks I decided it was time to see my Doctor and make sure this wasn’t to serious.
Well bummer, it was serious. After a couple of tests I was told I had colon cancer.
These blog posts are about my journey with colon cancer. Hopefully these posts will be able to help somebody in their journey.
I am going to be a survivor!

You are a survivor and such a trouper Mark!!! Things will get better with time.
Mark this is great that you are posting a blog. Our thoughts and prayers are with you! Keep up the faith:)
Thanks Susie. I am getting stronger every day. Of course my wife keeps making me walk. Can you imagine that?
Mark, so sorry to hear your news. Heard of your surgery and hope that all is well. You are a survivor and things will get better they just take time. Be patient and let your wife help you along the way. Hoping to see you out on that bicycle sometime this summer.
Hey Darcy – It was a bummer. Kind of went in denial and didn’t want to do it but my surgeon kept talking to me about survival. Finally it sunk in that I have this stupid cancer and I have to get rid of it. Pretty tired yet but trying to walk every day to build up strength. Not real excited about eating but I’m trying. No bike riding this summer. So you will just have to walk with me when you see me
Sory to hear about the cancer .Hope everything turns out for the best.I AM SURE IT WILL.To help things a long I wll say a prayer for you.
Thanks Steven. I’ll take all the prayers. How’s things going for you? Hope all is well!!
Hi Mark,
Wow so sorry to hear that you have to fight with this awful disease. Can’t believe it came up so suddenly. You are a strong man and I know you will be able to kick this. You are a survivor alright! It will help to see your kids to. Sounds like they will be home soon. Hope to get down to see you sometime soon. Will you be doing treatments also? Keeping you and your family in my prayers.
Hey Sue – I t did come suddenly. We were kind of in shock for a while. Kids will be here Friday at about 1. Can’t wait to see them. I go back in mid July to talk options for treatments.
I think this came from our bonfires. Say hi to everyone for me.
Glad to hear everthing is coming along for the best. I feel that you are a strong fighter. Follow the Doctors orders and pray and every will be alright. Willis
Thanks Willis – I pray a lot.
Hi Mark,
I heard about the cancer from Steve King. I’m so sorry you have to go through this, but with the Lord and Nancy on your side, you can face anything. You’ve always had a great attitude and I’m sure that your sense of humor makes it easier for all of you. Kevin & I have been praying for you. Stay close to the Lord.
Julie
Hey Julie,
This is a little bummer. Came out of nowhere. We were making plans to move to TN and I started getting some blood in my stools. Didn’t think much of it but it wouldn’t stop. Kind of feels like we are in a whirlwind. As you can imagine both Nancy and I have been going through tons of emotions. But we are doing okay. Just want to get through the recovery period and get back to normal. Thanks for you prayers, we will take everyone of them.
Mark
Need an update, even though I talk to you somewhat regularly
Well, I’ll just have to start typing something for you today. After we watch church there Barbie!!
Hi Mark,
I am so very sorry. That must be a scary feeling. You know, medicine has advanced so much in recent years and from what I read chances of surviving this form of cancer are pretty high when it is caught early. So keep thinking positive!
You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Ilka
Thanks Ilka. We have been scared. Maybe stunned is a better word. Kind of came out of no where. I am going to survive this. We caught it early. The surgery got out all the cancer they could see. Now we are just going to stay ahead of it.
Mark

Getting closer.
It’s hard to keep a good attitude man. Yesterday was great, today is kind of a bummer. Just takes so stupid long for everything to heal.
